Former Winter Springs Mayor Paul Partyka is moving back into the public arena with a bid to unseat freshman Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas in the Democratic primary.
Partyka, also former president of the Oviedo-Winter Springs Chamber of Commerce, announced his candidacy at a Chamber luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 19.
He served two terms as mayor and one as commissioner in Winter Springs until 2002, and then served as state committeeman for Seminole County and party chairman for District 24.
"I've been working behind the scenes and helping people with their campaigns," he said.
Recently he became managing partner of commercial real estate firm NAI Realvest in Maitland, taking some time off from politics to focus on the company. Now, he says, the timing is right to jump back in.
"I'm excited to be in the race," he said.
If he is successful in the Democratic primary, he could face Republican challenger State Rep. Sandy Adams or Winter Park City Commissioner Karen Diebel.
